LUBRICATION:
- Lubricate the entire tractor, Check the oil level of the engine crankcase, air cleaner, transmission case, and steering gear case, to see that they are filled to the correct level with the proper grades of 011 for prevailing temperature; refer to the specifications of lubricants on pates 23 to 25.
- Tractors shipped to destinations in the United States of America, Canada and Mexico are filled with oil before leaving the factory. However, the lubricant in the crankcase, air cleaner, and injection pump of a Diesel engine, when shipped from the factory, is for preservative purposes only and is not Suitable for use in regular service.
- The original oil should be drained from the crankcase, air cleaner, and inJection pump and replaced with the required amount of fresh oil having the physical properties and proper viscosity grade for the type of service. Tractors shipped export have had all oil drained from the crankcase, air cleaner, and injection pump.
DIESEL FUEL OIL SPECIFICATIONS:
- The best guide to follow when selecting fuel for use in the International Diesel engine is the set of tuel specifications prepared and recommended by the builder.
- Most refiners now market fuel designated as Diesel fuel to distinguish it from burner fuel. Although similar to burner fuel, the Diesel fuel is usually made.
GENERATOR AND LIGHT SWITCH:
The generator has an adjustable third brush tor changing the charging rate. The charging rate can be regulated From the instrument panel by using the light switch. Since the generator field circuit i. grounded through the light switch, it is absolutely necessary that there is a good electrical connection between the switch and the mounting panel. The light switch has four positions I low charge, “L;” high charge, -B;” dim lights, “Di” and bright lights, “B.” When the sritch is turned on to “D,” “B,” or na” positions, the field circult is direct to the ground, giving high charge or increased generator output. During the daytlm~, when lights are not used, the switch should be put 10 the “L” position, which reduces the output of the generator to approximate~ y one-half its original charge rate. It the battery is low, the switch should be placed in the “H” position untill it is tully charged.
- The generator has the third brush set in a position to give an output of.approximately six amperes when the switch is 10 the “B” position, and two to three amperes when the sritch is in the -L” position. . These charging rates are tor average conditions .
- It may be necessary under abnormal conditions to change these charging rates 10 order to maintain a fully charged battery. This may be accomplished ‘ by adjusting the third brush. GENERATOR COMMUTATOR It the commutator is dirty, it may be cleaned’ with a strip of No. 00 sandpaper.
- Never use ellerll cloth. All dust must be blown from the generator after the commutator has been eaned. It the commutator is very rough or out ot round, it is advisable to take the generator to your International Harvester dealer or to an International Harvester service station and have the commutator reconditioned.
