1960 DODGE PASSENGER CAR SERVICE MANUAL – PDF DOWNLOAD
FOREWORD
This manual is dedicated to the thousands of Dodge Service Technicians all over the world … who, enthused with their responsibility to the motoring public, constantly search for knowledge and new service methods in the increasingly complicated skill of modern day auto mechanics … in order to provide a better and more economical service to their community.
It covers many conditions that may be encountered, together with their possible causes. Each section contains practical disassembly, repair and assembly procedures. The customer’s description of a condition, when brought to the attention of the Dealer’s Service Department, should be verified by a road test, unless the condition is obvious by visual examination. The service tools referred to in this Manual, or their equivalent, are necessary for efficient servicing of Dodge cars. All tools listed are available
DODGE VEHICLE NUMBERS
All vehicle numbers contain ten digits. The vehicle number is a code which tells the make of car (1st digit), model of car (2nd digit), year built (3rd digit), assembly plant ( 4th digit) and vehicle serial number (last six digits). Listed below is the coding for Dodge cars
VEHICLE NUMBER LOCATION :
The vehicle number (serial number) is located on a plate which is attached to the left front door hinge pillar post.
ENGINE IDENTIFICATION
Engines may be identified by engine numbers according to the following prefixes: Super Red Ram V-8, P-36; Ram Fire V-8, P-38; D-500 Ram Induction 361 V-8, P-36; D-500 Ram Induction 383 V-8, P-38; Economy Slant “6”. P-22-numbers of these engines are stamped in position “A” shown at right. Red Ram V-8 prefix P-318-number stamped in position “B” shown at right.
BODY NUMBER LOCATION
The body number is stamped on a plate which is attached to the left or right side of the engine side of the dash, or on front of radiator yoke
2. ENGINE LUBRICATION
Engine Oil A special break-in oil has been added to your new Dodge Dart at the factory. Do not change this oil until your Dodge Dart has gone 1,000 miles. If necessary to maintain a proper level, (Fig. 5) add oil appropriate to the temperature range shown on the following chart. Because weather and road conditions vary throughout the country, it is best to consult your local Dodge dealr as to how often you should change oil. Your particular driving requirements will also determine how often oil should be changed. In general, oil should be changed every 2,000 miles. However, your particular driving requirements may permit extended oil change periods; whereas, short trip operation and cold weather or extremely dusty conditions may require oil changes mor often. Follow the recommendation of your Dodge dealer.
