1) ENGINE LUBRICATION :
- Engine Oil A special break-in oil has been added to your new Dodge Dart at the factory. Do not change this oil until your Dodge Dart has gone 1,000 miles. If necessary to maintain a proper level, (Fig. 5) add oil appropriate to the temperature range shown on the following chart.
- Because weather and road conditions vary throughout the country, it is best to consult your local Dodge dealr as to how often you should change oil. Your particular driving requirements will also determine how often oil should be changed. In general, oil should be changed every 2,000 miles.
- However, your particular driving requirements may permit extended oil change periods; whereas, short trip operation and cold weather or extremely dusty conditions may require oil changes mor often. Follow the recommendation of your Dodge dealer.
2) OIL FILTER:
- The oil filter cartridge should be changed every 4,000 miles to coincide with an engine oil change as follows: Unscrew filter cartridge from base and discard (8 cylinder engine). Wipe base clean and screw a new filter cartridge on the base until gasket on filter contacts base.
- Tighten at least ½ turn or more with strap wrench. Run engine and check for oil leaks. Add oil to “Full” mark. When car is driven in dusty areas, more frequent replacement of the cartridge may be necessary. On 6 cylinder engines, remove the filter cover and discard the replaceable element. When installing the cover, use a new gasket.
3) OIL FILLER PIPE CLEANER
Wash the air cleaner in kerosene every 5,000 miles and re-oil with SAE 50 engine oil. Use SAE 40 if SAE 50 is not available. Service air cleaner more frequently if car is operated in extremely dusty area.
