CARE AND OPERATION OF YOUR MACHINE:
You are urged to read the following suggestions and information, checking each item as referred to in the various illustrations so as to acquaint yourself with parts requiring periodical lubrication, and how to make vari-ous adjustments if required. The result will be longer life and more care- free operation of your machine.
LUBRICATION REAR HOUSING AND GEAR CASE INPORTANT:
Before starting machine. add a good grade of S.A.S. 90 éoor lubricant to rear housing and gear case. Pour three—fourths of a pin‘ into rear housing and five pints into gear case. With the exception of the rear drive housing and gear case, all parts requiring lubrication are equipped with pressure gun fittings. One filling of three-fourths of a pint of gear lubricant into rear housing and five pints into gear case should be sufficient.to operate all season unless a leak is developed in the housing, gear case or gear case oil seals. Oil level in rear housing and gear casa should be checked teekly.
TILTING CUTTER BAR AND REGISTER OF KNIFE:
The inner shoe and pitman connections, you wil” note that register of knife in the guards is controlled by close machine at the factory and requires no attention or adjustment by the operator. Should it be necessary to change the tilt of cutter bar in relation to the ground, remove cotter pins indicated at “Q” in Illust. 6, loosen the nuts securing inner shoe to main frame and rotate in direction desired; then tighten nuts and replace cotter pins.
LIFTING SPRING:
If lifting springs are tightened to proper length (18—1/2″ from inside of spring hook to inside of spring Spacer as indicated at “R” in Illust.3). a more satisfactory contact of cutter bar to ground will be obtained.
GUARD LEDGER PLATES, KNIFE CLIPS, WEARING PLATES AND SECTIONS:
Knife clips “8” shown in Illust. 6 should be set to hold the sections down against the ledger plates on the guard, but must allow the knife to run freely.V The steel wearing plate “T” shown in Illust. 6 are designed to hold the knife sections in a correct cutting position. If, after long service, they become worn enough to allow the points of the sections to rise from the ledger plates, they should be replaced by new wearing plates.
GRASS BOARD:
The connection of the grass board may be tightened to any extent, or the board may be rigid if preferred. To lay a good swath, the position of the grass rod may be changed by using the various holes in grass board.-For tall grass, raise rear end of rod; for short grass, lower the rear end.
