DIRECTIONS FOR USING PARTS BOOK
- This b0ok of a complete 11st of all service parts for the WLA Solo Model built expressly for the U.S. Anny. It also incl udes definite stockage recommendations.
- The first section of this book lists all service parts, arranged by assembly groups in logical sequence, and fully illustrated. To locate a part look up the assembly in the index on page 2 and turn to the page indicated. Illustrations are as close to the groups of parts as possible.
- Following the 1’1rst section of the book is a numerical list of “O” parts . These “O” parts are screws, nuts, washers, lock washers, . steel balls, cotter pins, rivets and grease fittings that may be used in several assembly groups. Sizes are marked for easy identification. In the last section of the book, we have listed numerically all part numbers, showing the page numbers on which the parts are listed. This section also shows the list prices of a l l parts. A complete bearing chart is in the back of the book.
- Parts stock age recommendations appear after each item in the first section of the book, with the exception of the “O” parts. The recommendations on “O” parts are shown in t he numerical list of “O” parts . The suggested stock age of parts for 100 units is to cover light fie l d repairs only. It is suggested that each unit operating 100 units or nearly 100 units maintain a stock of spare parts at approximately the quant ity shovm.
- The proposed quantities for 1000 units will cover a reservoir of stock for field repairs, as well as a supply of spare parts for both light and heavy repairs at a main repair base. 1he figures are based on a 12 months supply.
- Parts stock age figures are carefully worked out on the basis of factory experience lists supplemented by special experience data based on actual Army Service. They may vary somewhat, of course, because of difference in climate, terrain, methods of operation or type of service. However, they should serve as an excellent guide in requisitioning and maintaining stocks .
- Some items, such as keys, bearings, gaskets, bolts, nuts and washers, etc ., may possibly be drawn from PARTS COMMON stock. such items are designated by listing the manufacturer’s name and number, or the exact size, 1mnediately after the part . Where parts do not show such a listing, they cannot be considered as PARTS COMMON and are available only as Harley-Davidson parts. Bolts, nuts, washers, etc., as listed in the “Ott list cannot be considered PARTS COMMON 1f they are markea special, and sizes must always check exactly , Harley-Davidson part numbers lend themselves to a strictly numerical arrangement of stock, or of stock record cards, etc. Each part number consists 01′ the part NUMBER proper followed by the indication of the year that the part went into our standard production.
- No. 2076-41A, therefore, is part 2076 starter crank that we started to use in 1941. The suffix “N” after a part number indicates that the part 1s a standard production item, with a special finish for military use .
